Visualizing the Earth in Mixed Realities and STARLAB

Students will climb aboard a virtual space station and participant in a view of Space to Earth from a virtual Geoscience and Remote Sensing Orbiting Laboratory. Students will interact with various Geoscience datasets and imagery as collected through Earth Orbiting Satellites. Outside the mobile lab, students will explore the many applications of augmented reality and its use in STEM fields. Finally, inside of a STARLAB planetarium, students will learn about some popular constellations and stars including our sun, the reason for the seasons, and climate in the local environment. In addition, older students will learn about celestial navigation and satellite orbits.

Activities Include: USOAR VR Experience, HoloGLOBE AR, a variety of additional AR apps, GLOBE weather observations, STARLAB Presentation

Program Requirements:

  • The mobile lab requires an outside parking lot clearance of at least 50x10 feet.
  • STARLAB requires an indoor room at least 20x20 feet, a 10 foot height clearance, and a nearby electrical outlet
